Fiber Arts - Today and Yesterday
In the past the fiber arts were considered a necessary craft. Agricultural communities provided fiber for families to turn into essential goods for survival. Sheep provided blankets and clothing through the hard work of spinners. Plant materials were gathered for baskets to store needed food or belongings.
Today we see it as an art form, one that not only fills the eyes with beauty, but begs to be touched. Wearable art nearly imbued with its own life, a useful decorative art that has 3-dimensional appeal. Spinning is no longer a lowly chore, but a symphony of color and texture. Weaving isn’t reserved for rugs or blankets, but shows itself as a work of art. Even knitting and crocheting are taking on new life as high fashion and amiguri animals. We are online, experimenting, creating, evolving. We are young, old, every age inbetween. It’s a whole new world of Fiber arts, wouldn’t you like to try it?
